Puppetry

Wire sculpture, mask making, and puppetry is a fresh deviation from my 2-D practice. While still being able to study the structure of figure, I am able to incorporate and study movement and create more fantastical pieces.

In the summer of 2010, I was a participant at The Eugene O'Neil National Puppetry Conference, and I was lucky enough to develop and perform a piece with the Emily puppet that was about the suicide attempt of a friend that resulted in paralysis from the chest down. I was working on the parallels of a puppet's dependance on its puppeteer to a paraplegic's dependence on their family and caretakers. I am still curious about conveyance of paralysis through puppetry due to my family's history of ALS.
